Library Printer Setup for Vista
Install the Reed registry patch if you haven't already
The following patch must be installed before you can access Reed's network resources. The patch also enables Automatic Updates on your computer (a requirement for PCs on the network).
- Right-click on the following link and select 'Save Link As' or 'Save Target As': Download Registry Patch. Save the file to your desktop.
- Double-click the SAMBA-AU.REG icon on the desktop to install it.
- Click Yes to add the registry information, then click OK.
- Restart your computer.
Download the script for the printers you prefer to use
from the list below. After downloading, double-click the script to extract the setup files to your desktop and run the setup. You will see a dialogue box which says, "Windows needs your permission to continue" twice during setup - click continue. Depending on your system, setup will take between 20 - 60 seconds.
- North Reference printers
- Reading Room printers
- Color printer (30¢ per page)
After setup you may delete the setup folders on the desktop.
To print, you must be logged on to the print server
- Click the Start button

- In the Start Search box enter \\library_print and then click OK.
- After a few seconds, a "Connect to library_print" dialog box opens. In the dialog box type your Reed network username and password and click OK.
- A new window will open displaying networked printers. You do not need to click on a printer.
- You can now make a shortcut to library_print by dragging the Address bar image to the Desktop.

- Close the library_print window.
Enable double-sided printing
- Click the Start button
- Click Control Panel
- Click Hardware and Sound -> Printers
- Right click the library printer. Click Properties.
- Click the Device Settings tab
- Under "Installable Options" look for "Duplex Unit (for 2-Sided Printing):" Click "Not Installed" to get a drop-down list from which to choose "Installed".
